For several years, Karen Bradley, President custom Nursing Scrubs manufacturer,Sassy Scrubs, from Penn Yan, New York, has been producing baby quilts to ship to needy orphanages in China. In addition to spending weekends in her sewing room, she has enlisted staff at her company, Sassy Scrubs, a US manufacturer of custom hospital uniforms, to create baby blankets and quilts in their extra time. Her dedication brought her to the attention of Colorado’s adoption agency, CCAI, in addition to the governmental officials at China’s CCAA. Karen happily announces that her Blankets for Babies Project has been expanded!
In a recent partnership between Chinese Children Adoption International (CCAI) and the China Center of Adoption Affairs (CCAA), Karen Bradley’s Blankets for Babies Project has been accepted as an Official Project by the CCAA! The Mandarin name for her project is “ai xin xiao mian tan” and roughly translates to “Little Blankets of Love”, an appropriate title for this loving project of the heart. Bradley has mailed over 6,000 blankets to Chinese waiting children already through her volunteer efforts with her Blankets for Babies Project and the growth of this project to Official Status will allow her to continue helping the waiting and foster children of China’s orphanages.
As Volunteer Project Director, Bradley accepted a challenge to send 1,000 baby blankets and homesewn quilts to be received by CCAA by June 1, 2007, which was celebrated as Children’s Day in China. Bradley provided the baby blankets, on a volunteer basis, through her own company, Sassy Scrubs, and mailed the blankets to CCAA to be distributed to the orphans in time for the holiday, nearly 2,000 of them! The ultimate focus for the blanket project is to provide warm baby blankets for 10,000 orphans – quite a challenge! Karen plans to continue her volunteer Blankets for Babies project until the challenge has been met.
