Change A Light Bulb And Greatly Improve The Planet Using Energy Star

Most people want to do their part to help reduce greenhouse gas emissions and trim expenses on their power bills, but do not know what they can do.

Using energy properly at home is a major start; and, it can be as effortless as changing a light bulb.

The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and Department of Energy (DOE) are calling on Americans to participate in the growing number of people switching their existing lighting to energy-efficient bulbs and fixtures.

A lot of people don’t realize it, but the average household is responsible for two times as many greenhouse gas emissions as the average automobile.

Actually, if every single American home replaced its 5 most frequently used lamps or the bulbs in them with Energy Star certified ones, the amount of greenhouse gases we could avoid is equivalent to the emissions from more than 8 million cars.

Not only does energy-efficient lighting help shield the environment, but it also saves consumers money because lighting accounts for nearly 20 % of household electricity costs. Each house making this “5 light fixture change” could save about $60 a year in power expenses.

As part of the annual Energy Star Change a Bulb, Change the World Campaign, the EPA and DOE have declared Oct. 4, “Energy Star Change a Light Day.” Individuals are invited to take a pledge on the web at and commit to replace at least one incandescent bulb or fixture in their household with one that has earned the national Energy Star for power efficiency.

People who have pledged are already having a dramatic combined impact. Pledges taken will lead to the reduction of 33 million pounds of greenhouse gas emissions.

The objective would be to encourage a minimum of 500000 people to join the community and take the Energy Star Change a Light Pledge.

The future is LED Lighting

LED lamps   are a specific  type of power reducing, ecology-friendly light system. LED bulbs   require a lesser amount of energy   for them to function   as they create very little  temperature, so a much bigger part of electrical energy  goes into creating   light rather than wasting power. Researches   on LED lamps   have revealed that they recover up to sixty-five   percent of energy   compared  to other incandescent bulbs. This kind of energy-efficient bulbs is an perfect way for decreasing  the amount of carbon emissions in the atmosphere. So it can be said that LEDs will ultimately  supplant all sorts of bulbs – fluorescent, halogen, and incandescent in the near future.

LED lamps are created because of the excitement of electron’s within its semiconductor structure. They do not contain filaments. This engineering is the chief motive behind its longevity. A LED bulb can very effortlessly last for 10 years. Moreover, they are shock, vibration and moisture resilient. These bulbs do not have dangerous substances like lead and mercury and are also free from breaking hazards. All these details make them a reliable and dependable supply of lighting .

By adopting a LED bulbs you give yourself a realistic chance on cutting down the expenses towards your electrical statement. Changing to LEDs you will cost less and provide more payback in the long run. Also it would give you the gratification of contributing your small bit in the management of defending the surroundings .

So together with an eye-catching contour plus the usefulness characteristic, it comes as a comprehensive package in the hands of the customer.

So spending on LED lamps can be termed as a – ‘bright, eco-friendly, long-time choice.’

Help Protect the Environment in a Few Simple Ways

“Green living”  seems to be hot buzz words right now. It looks likea lot of people areattempting to “go green” in different ways – even if it is justbuying Energy Star appliances,recycling, or making use of re-useable grocery bags at the store.  There are many  critics  around  that just don’t want to spend time  to “go green” and it could be it’s because they have the wrong idea about being green .  Maybe you are one of those nay-sayers who thinkbeing green will take up too much of your time; I mean sorting trash for recyclingmay not be your idea of a Saturday project.  Youmight alsobe concerned that being green is too expensive – at least it seems like a lot of the environmentally safe products for sale cost more than the non-green products.  A greatexample is light bulbs. The energy efficient bulbs are somewhatmore expensive, but they also have many great benefits – they last quite a bit longer than normal bulbs and they are good for the environment. Even if you may not be a dedicated Earth lover, there are still many easy things you can do each day to be environmentally conscious and not disrupt your life in a major way.;

Here’s a few tips on how to “go green” each day  :

  1. Throw out the take-out bag, the plastic bag from home , and the doggie bag and bring your food to work in an insulated, re-useable lunch tote.
  2. Next time you go food shopping , bring along a reuseable grocery tote bag instead of utilizing the plastic bags the store provides.  You can even make your shopping bag unique with a custom monogram.
  3. Take an insulated coffee cup with you to Starbucks next time you buy a cup of coffee.  You will waste less by not using one of their cups.
  4. Rather than buying an unopened bottle of water, bring your own in a re-useable steel water bottle.
  5. Think about buying a set of eating utensils to take with you on your next eating outing. It’s silly to use a set of plastic utensils for one meal and then just toss them away. You may even get a colorful set, and purchase a set for every member in the family.
  6. Instead of using disposable paper napkins, consider switching to fabric napkins for meals in your house .  You can easily make napkins from old  fabric scraps or buy a set to use and launder on your regular laundry day.
  7. Think about buying food in local stores as muchas possible.  In my town I frequent the Farmer’s Market every summer for all my fresh veggies.  Every time you can purchase locally, you are cutting down on the amount of resources needed to move and preserve the produce.
  8. Launder your clothes in cold water and you can save around 85% of the energy that hot water would usually take to wash a load of clothes.
  9. Instead of using your  automobile to run errands, think about walking to your destination instead.  Think of the exercise you will get and the gas savings !
